Positive Updates are the Best Updates

Things are finally looking up a little bit so far this year.  Jason and I became a little more financially stable recently and are looking forward to paying off some of our debts so that we aren't living paycheck to paycheck anymore.  Simba and Isabelle are considerably stable with their health issues for now.  My autonomic attacks have reduced significantly in frequency and severity, though they do still happen.  I should be able to work with the sleep doctor a little better once I get my sleep study results back to get relief from unrested sleep which will hopefully in turn reduce my chronic fatigue and my anxiety even more.  We booked our trip to Tennessee for the end of October a couple weeks ago.  My mom is coming out the second week in August to visit and spend some time with us.  I'm in the process of taking leadership and development classes at my job as well as I've had both my phone and in-person interview for Suture Specialist.  I've been filling in unofficially as a specialist for the last three months.  I should hear in a few weeks on whether I got the job or not.

The first Friday in February, I'm starting the process of getting my Alice in Wonderland half sleeve done - finally!  It's going to take about twenty hours of work to complete.  This will be my first time sitting eight hours for a tattoo - a little excited and nervous at the same time.  I've already filed my taxes.  So yeah, I'd say that things are going pretty decent.  Jay's dads birthday is this coming Friday, so we are going over his house Saturday to take him out to eat and have cake with him.  I started back going to therapy this week.  I have plans to go every other week.  My next plan is to develop a self-care plan to work on my overall health.  I haven't been keeping up with my water intake that well lately, so I'm definitely going to be improving that.  I'm thinking about switching my morning breakfast to drinking a Premier Protein shake and watching my carb consumption a little better.  In the next few weeks, I'm going to start incorporating some low-impact exercising throughout the week after work.  I would also like to come up with a dedicated skincare routine.

I'm hoping I can keep up with my blog better, especially to track my progress.  I've been battling keeping up with this thing for years and I'm not sure why.  I love journaling and find it to provide a sense of stress relief.  Plus, my therapist highly recommends regular journaling as a tool to reduce anxiety, depression and stress.  Well, that's all I have for todays post.  I'm going to put my Salisbury meatballs in the fridge, relax for the night and maybe peruse Kindle to see what kind of books I can get into reading.  Not to mention, we have been talking about where we want to go for my first trip of a lifetime benefit at work - definitely out of the country!  I get a trip of a lifetime every five years that I work for my company and each five years, they give you more money towards it.  We are thinking about going to Europe, possibly Rome!

Alright.  Ta-ta for now!

We All Know...That I'm Not Very Good At This

It's been a crazy past few month's guys.  Back in March, Jason's dad took a very nasty fall which resulted in EMS being called.  He fractured his hip around his hip replacement and had to have surgery.  Come to find out, he's been having mini strokes.  He has a referral for neuro-psychology but can't get in for another eight months or so because everyone and their brother has a neurological issue.  So, he most likely won't be seeing that doctor until around January 2026.  I haven't been too well myself lately.  I've been dealing with a lot of stress in my personal life and it's starting to show up physically now.  I've been dealing with a lot of increased heart-rate issues lately and I'm currently in the process of working with several doctors to figure out what is going on.  To say the least, these issues are making me extremely fatigued and feeling very ill most of the time.  My primary care doctor won't put me on any medication right now to stabilize the heart-rate issues until I see the Cardiologist on June 2nd because if I'm sent for any tests, being on medication will skew the test results.  So I'm just doing my best to reduce as many bad habits as I can for right now and eat as healthy as I can as well as staying well-hydrated in the mean time.

I quit vaping as of May 20th which was my birthday.  I had quit one time before and then my dad died - it's not an excuse.  I chose to pick it back up.  Yes, I was dealing with an extremely stressful event but at the end of the day, there will always be stress.  I don't do caffeine often but when I do, I'm now choosing decaf options which still has a small amount of caffeine, but is way, way less than actual caffeine choices.  I switched from cream in my coffee to oak milk and Splenda instead of sugar.  Yeah, they say Splenda isn't all that great either, but what the hell other options are there?  The only way to be truly healthy is to eat chicken and broccoli all the time and drink water - that's it!  I've had to take a step back from doing things that require me to "push" myself and ask Jason for help when I need it.  I think recent events really scared him with what I'm going through.

I've been reading a little bit here and there and would love to do so more.  It's just as of late, I've been very, very tired and I'll start reading and then my eyes will get very, very heavy and before I know it, the phone, tablet, whatever will just about fall out of my hands.  Self-help books is what I'm currently interested in right now.  It helps fill the gaps between therapy appointments.  I'm reading one right now called, "Forgiving What You Can't Forget" by Lysa Terkeurst.  A couple others that I'd like to read afterwards are "Communicate Your Feelings (without starting a fight) by Nic Saluppo and "The Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins.  I was also thinking of reading "The Magic of Mindful Self-Awareness" by Matt Tenney but I read the sample and it just didn't do anything for me really.

Therapy has been helping me.  I was so ready to cancel therapy this past Friday because I was out of work Wednesday and Thursday, spending from then until now mostly in bed trying to recover.  I'm dealing with a lot lately mentally.  I've been super hard on myself about my career and feeling bad about how I haven't been able to progress lately among other things.  Thing is, maybe I just need to focus on my current position and managing that as it is.  Maybe it's best that I don't progress until I'm able to get my health straightened out.  Either way, one thing I'm working on is setting boundaries with people and realizing I can't come to everyone's rescue all the time.  I need to put myself first sometimes and as of late, this is definitely one of those times.  I know I've said it a lot and we all know just how terrible I am at keeping this damn blog up and running, but what I would like to do is be a lot more consistent with it...writing here that is.  I love writing and keeping track of my daily musings, but I just haven't felt like I could ever prioritize it.  Well, the times come that I prioritize what is important to me!

Late Afternoon Update and a Very Tired Tinisha

I made a pitcher of fresh brewed iced green tea.  Am I winning at this healthy thing yet?  No?  I didn't think so.  I didn't eat breakfast this morning because I had a last-minute doctor's appointment this morning to devise a plan with my family doctor about the time I'm going to need out of work to go for medial branch blocks on my lumbar region of my back, eventually an ablation and a whole lot of chiropractic adjustments in between.  I came home and made a few phone calls between my employer's FMLA rep, doctors' offices and such.  At some point, I spoke briefly with my mom and gave her an update on everything while making a chicken salad wrap that consisted of chicken salad w/ grapes, bacon pieces, lettuce and provolone cheese on a carb smart wrap.  Oh.  Did you catch how I pointed out that it was a "carb" smart wrap - see what I did there?  I also sliced up a bell green pepper and smeared some low-fat cream cheese on them and sliced a hard-boiled egg into half.  That was my lunch.  For dinner, I ate two stuffed clams with Sweet Baby Ray's hot sauce on them.  I've been dealing with a few headaches lately (not literally) metaphorically but don't really care to get into the specifics at this time.  Did I mention that Jay got around to lowering our bed finally?  My back is thanking him for sure on that one.  Other than that, I putzed around the house for the remainder of the day - did some dishes, used my weighted Infinity Hoop for about 4-5 songs worth from my Spotify playlist (roughly 15 minutes), did some work in my shadow-work journal.  I was really skeptical about that journal, but it's helped a bit.  I'm only halfway through the book.

I made me some overnight oats so I can bring them to work with me in the morning for breakfast before I stumble into work - a cup of berry flavored Two Good yogurt (2g of sugar), rolled oats, chia seeds, a touch of honey, blueberries and strawberries sliced into quarters.  I also got me a tumbler filled with some iced green tea so I can just grab and go.  I don't like to do anything extra in the mornings that I don't have to because it's already bad enough that I have to wake my ass up at 4:30 a.m.  I have my first chiropractic appointment July 12th which will consist of consult, x-rays and my first adjustment.  I don't go for my first around of medial branch blocks until July 30th.  I'm learning through doing some inner soul searching and working in this shadow-work journal that it's time for me to finally set boundaries and stick to my guns in terms of finally making time to take genuine care of myself.  I want to feel healthy for the first time in my life and I want to discover who I am for what is the very first time as well.  I came to the realization that I never got to meet myself due to everything that I have been through in my life.  But now that some of the heavy burdens in my life have been laid to rest, I can finally do what I need to for myself.

I just need to get through all these procedures so I can get my back in order so that I can truly begin to get my life on track.  I have my phone interview coming up this Friday for the quality position I put in for and I'm super excited for that!  Anyways, I'm going to get ready to take my night meds and knock out - 4:30 a.m. comes early and my Cali girl is ready for night-nights with her momma.  😴

Things From the Weekend and my Week Ahead

I had a very busy weekend.

Friday, my new refrigerator was delivered, and I was sweating bullets that the unit was not going to fit in our house.  The Home Depot delivery crew were miracle workers and even though they did have to take off the pull-out deli and freezer door to get it in, they finally got it all installed and up and running.  I'm so incredibly pleased between the installers and the quality of the actual unit.  I went grocery shopping early Saturday morning and admittingly, I had so much fun putting my groceries away!

Isn't it lovely?  The lack of food is due to the fact that I had to buy groceries again for the first time, that I'm on a healthier eating plan that includes reducing intake and my job also feeds me free lunch every day.  Peep the cat rug that my mom gave me that I put in front of my fridge!  Any who, the tech that started installing our security system was supposed to come back on Saturday morning and finish up installing the last three camera's but supposedly, he was involved in an accident on the high-way where an 18-wheeler side swept him.  I have a customer service rep calling me at some point later this morning to reschedule that appointment as the scheduling department is closed on the weekends.  I was able to get my house back into a reasonable state after having the refrigerator delivered and such.  I woke up very early yesterday morning, so I got up and did laundry, washed all the pet beds, vacuumed, did dishes, scrubbed a stain out of the coffee table area rug from one of the pets having an accident.  Jason finally got around to lowering our bed for me.  Because of my back issues, I had a hard time getting in and out of bed.  We went to Lowe's yesterday afternoon because Jason was trying to find a new part for a part that broke off of our lawn mower's deck.  I wanted to look at outdoor area rugs for internal purposes - I want to put a water-resistant area rug where I put Rebel's pee pad but also at the area where the cat's litter boxes are.  To say the least, I will be purchasing from Amazon for those because I'm not paying out the ass for a rug.  We also needed to buy a light switch toggle as the delivery guys accidentally hit one of my light switches and snapped off the switch - no big deal, they cost $.85 cents to replace.

We went over his dad's house to get the food out of his refrigerator that he was letting us keep in there while we were in the process of getting a new fridge.  Then yes, I was so exhausted that we ended up getting Burger King for dinner, but to be fair, I had a Premier Protein shake for breakfast and two pickles for a snack prior and I got the bare minimum at Burger King - a chicken sandwich and a fry.  Usually, I would order something to the effective of two sandwiches and two fries.  I have today off as I have a doctor's appointment.  I'm hoping I can combine the consult and the chiropractic adjustment all in the same appointment today so that I can get some much-needed pain relief and I can conserve the remainder of my PTO.  I took today off as a regular scheduled PTO day, so in case I need my FMLA for recovery purposes, I'll have it.  I have a few trivial things to do this morning before my doctor's appointment like put up a few clothing items, clean a few dishes in my sink and clean the bathrooms.  I'm trying to get that done before my appointment so I can rest afterwards.  I'm going to be making some Philly cheesesteak bowls for our dinner tonight.  Between trying to eat better, trying to reduce the amount of medication's I'm on, working on my mental health and trying to get my house in order - though stressful at times, I feel that I'm working toward being in a pretty good place in my life.  I have my phone interview for Quality Inspector II this coming Friday and I already typed up my notes for my interview - I'm just praying it goes well.  I know if it's in God's plan, he will see it through for me, but I really do need and want this after everything I've been through.  I hope I have some good luck for a change because man, when I tell YOU I've been going through it...

Anyways,

Cheers.

Life Update

Good afternoon,

I had just returned to work after taking a week off for my birthday.  I had only been back to work for a week when I found out on 5/30 that my father had passed away.  I'll spare all the details on that because quite frankly, I've had to repeat myself so much to so many people on what had happened with my dad's passing and how the arrangements were going to go that I've exhausted myself.  My father had a lot wrong with him both physically and mentally - unfortunately, it was his time to go.  As far as my long-term past and my most recent past as it pertains to him, I've officially laid it to rest along with him.  Jay and I spent about a week up in Rhode Island taking care of things with that.  He went back to work right away while I took an additional week off to recoup and handle a few additional things I had left on my plate, including my consult with the neurosurgeon.  That consult was a complete waste of my time.  The doctor doesn't think I'm a candidate for surgery at this time and apparently won't think so any time soon.  He wants me to return to "conservative measures" which frustrates me only because I've been doing "conservative measures" for the past 9 years to no avail and the pain has done nothing but get worse!  So, I'm going to have another consult with the spine and pain center I seen about three years ago and tell the doctor everything that's been going on, including what the neurosurgeon said and go from there, I guess.  The neurosurgeon is also not giving me any restrictions at all - "listen to your body, it will let you know"...

Well, I tried using my infinity hoop again for just fifteen minutes or so and my back has been out of commission ever since.  Our refrigerator shit the bed after about two days being back in town, so we had to order a brand-new fridge that won't be here until Friday of this upcoming week.  So, I've been living off of peanut butter and pickle on a carb smart wrap and soup for lunches and we've been going out for dinner.  I'm trying to eat healthier despite not having a refrigerator at the moment, so I opted for a chicken finger salad with honey mustard last night.  I've had the shittiest luck since my father passed away.  My father had no money (no 401k, no life insurance, no savings, nothing in his checking) to take care of his arrangements, so I had to front my bill money which I was able to get some assistance through family and friends, but I still need about another $600 to get me out of the red with my bills.  My job has an employee relief fund program, but I got denied because apparently, I can borrow up to $9,000 out of my 401k - ugh, no way!  I'm not even bothering with general public assistance because he'd have to make under $377 a month to qualify for that and he was getting far more than that in his disability check.  Not to mention, the gas money we spent getting up there, driving around up there and back - plus the expense of food.  Now we had to dish out additional money for a refrigerator!  Talk about shitty luck, huh?

(Chicken Finger Salad - Man, was it delicious!)

(All cleaned up and ready for the new one to be installed!)

(This is the refrigerator that we decided to go with!)

On top of that, I was in the middle of job bidding with my employer.  I had originally put in for Textile Supervisor but had withdrawn the application because a position for QC Inspector II had been posted a few days later and I felt that my ability and skills matched more closely with QC Inspector II than that of a Textile Supervisor.  Well, they were going to interview me for the supervisor position, but I haven't heard nothing back on the QC position yet, so I'm not sure how I feel at the moment.  My current supervisor was trying to make sure that I was going to receive the same process as everyone else who applied because I couldn't help my circumstances.  I even reached out to talent acquisition to make sure of that and they assure me that my application was in the process of being considered.  Hopefully I'll find out more soon because right now, I'm trying not to assume or have feelings of disappointment towards it.

Through it all, through everything; I just want to take some time to myself, some much needed time.  I'm going to take time to relax and heal among other things like organize my house better, eat better, consult with my doctors as needed, try to cut out more bad habits, incorporate low-impact exercise, game, read a book or two, blog - things of that nature.  I do eventually, when I can afford it, purchase a memorial necklace for both my mother-in-law and father.  His will have his ashes in it though; she was buried.

Other than that, here are just a few more pictures from being in Rhode Island that I'd like to share.

Oh, and this one - just because I thought it was ridiculously cute!

(What a daddy's girl!)

It's Been a Stressful Few Weeks

I know I haven't posted in a few weeks - I've just been going through it lately.  Jason got suspended a few weeks ago due to a mistake he made at work and he just got suspended yet again, but this time for something that wasn't his fault.  October 6th was Jason's mom's six months that she's been passed away.  I've been struggling a lot with getting my shit together, feeling like everything around me is just...artificial.  Last Friday I was supposed to have a doctor's appointment with my primary care doctor and I forgot all about it due to it being Jay's mom's six month passing.  I went and got the memorial tattoo for Jay's mother and it came out absolutely beautiful.

I've been thinking about a lot of different things lately like about our future, my health, my career, etc.  After having missed my doctor's appointment last Friday, I made the decision to go back to therapy.  I hadn't been since around April or May because of Jay's mom being so sick and being between jobs.  I need to take some time to focus on myself.  I'm trying to lose weight, take better care of myself and my house and overall, just want to work on getting my shit together in general.  I want to take time to myself to heal from everything - my past and losing Jay's mom.  I'm in the process of rolling over my retirement plans from my previous employers to my current one.  My therapist thinks it would be a good idea for me to write my thoughts and feelings down, so I'm going to keep track of my thoughts, feelings and my therapy journey.  She told me that all the things I'm feeling and going through with my grief is all normal.  I felt that six months had been too long to be grieving but she assured me that it's actually not that long at all and that most people grieve on average from the day of passing, up to three years...at least the heaviest part of it.

I've kinda just been going through the motions and running on auto-pilot.  I'm not really in the mood to discuss what I've been going through with my grief right now, but I would like to mention it at a later date.  I mainly just wanted this post to be a short and sweet update.

How Losing my Mother-in-Law Changed My Life (Part 1: Life is Precious)

No, Jason and I are still not married but we might-as-well be as we have been together for going on 13 years this coming November, so I call his mom my mother-in-law or as of late, just mom.  He'll marry me someday. 😂

Edit and disclaimer here:  I realized half-way through typing this post that I had a lot more thought process here than I originally intended so this post will be a lengthy one.

As I mentioned previously, we lost our mom April 6th of this year, and it is one of the most difficult things I have ever experienced in my entire life.  That's saying a lot because I have been through my fair share of difficult things in life.  I'm still going through a ton of grief and to be quite honest, I haven't even begun the healing process and she has been gone a little over two months already.  I'm not sure why she was taken from us this soon and I may never get that answer.  I'm still going through a lot of processing, sadness and anger over it.  I hate saying that it has done some "good" things for me, but it truly has.  It feels so wrong saying that because losing her was definitely not a good thing.  I miss her every single day and would give anything to have her back but unfortunately, I can't live my life like that and even she believed that there is life beyond death; both for the living and the dead.

Her passing, though it's been extremely difficult, has changed my life - not necessarily for good or bad.  It's just changed the way I perceive life completely.  Losing her has made me realize how precious life truly is.  I mean, we only get one, right?  And we all have decisions to make with that life we are so graciously given.  If anyone knows me, I haven't had the easiest life.  Don't get me wrong, I know that there are people out there that have had by far a worse life than me - I'm not denying that; I'm only speaking for myself here and what I've personally been through.  The purpose of this post is not to compare and contrast my life to those of others but to simply or rather, not so simply express my gratitude to the life lessons that I have learned throughout my life.  Due to the nature of the life experience's I have endured, I will refrain from going into great detail about them as I choose to put those aspects of my past in exactly what it is...the past.  But particularly, I want to take the time to share how losing my mother-in-law impacted my life.  It has taught me a lot of very valuable and important lessons in a distinctly short amount of time, really, above all the different unfortunate things I have experienced throughout my lifetime thus far.

Life is Precious: We hear this all the time but rarely ever give it any real thought and we don't really until we have been through something so significant (usually painful mentally or physically) to provoke it.  The term, "it really opened my eyes" is a term that only people who have really been through something life altering can relate to.  And just when you think you have it all figured out, there's that next thing in life waiting to knock you on your ass.  I have had experiences in life that only "opened my eyes" in the short-term and then I was right back to my old ways, forgetting or rather, dismissing what it taught me.  I learned absolutely nothing.

Repeating history is ignorance at its finest.  It takes some of us longer than others.  "Those who do not learn from their mistakes are condemned to repeat them".  You have to be ready to listen and take advice, not just hear it.  And when you take advice, you take it at your own discretion - not all advice is best for everyone.  Advice is very situational from person to person.  I spent a lot of time (a good portion of my life) in a very dark place.  I've spent a lot of time pondering and questioning things like my individual purpose, life in general, my relationships with others and God, etc.  We learn best through trials and tribulations which when you think about it, is really unfortunate but true, nonetheless.  When I read that last statement, I think to myself, "That's sad that we have to suffer in order to do better".  But, if you never suffered, by natural human instinct, you take things for granted.

Think about it for a minute.  When life is considerably stable and things are going well, we tend to not feel the need to change anything about it by default.  It's only when things are going to hell in a hand basket that we begin to feel any actual need to have a thought process on change.  We all process things differently.  We all allow or disallow things to affect us differently.  Something that heavily affects me, might not affect you at all or as much and vice versa.  That's really life in a nutshell.  We also all have decisions to make that will dictate how the next second, minute or hour of our lives are impacted.  In all actuality, we underestimate the amount of power we really have in our lives.  Believe it or not, we are responsible for the destiny of our own lives based on the decisions that we make every single day.

I started out the same way that most people do - young and stupid.  We all think at a young age that we know everything and that we have it all figured out just to realize that we were sadly mistaken.  I've learned that age is not what makes you wise, but what you have experienced in life and what you have allowed yourself to take from it is the true key to wisdom.  Despite what you have taken from your life experiences however, I'm sorry to disappoint you, you're still not done learning - you're just simply wiser than you were before and an even smaller percentile more intelligent than the population as a whole but it's still an improvement from where you were before, no matter how small it is.  Truth is, you will continue to learn until the day you take your last breath.  If you learn nothing from the things you experience in life, you've made no progress and that's just foolish and a waste.  You'll know when you've made progress from what you've learned when you see positive results from the actions you've taken to make change in result of those experiences.  Being human, we tend to resort to what is familiar and change is a very difficult thing but where there is a will, there is a way.  It doesn't happen overnight and often times takes many failures to bring success.  That's all okay but what is not okay is giving up.  Life is an assignment, and we are the pen and paper writing it.

I'm 32 years old and just beginning to learn what life is all about.  Life is full of bouts of happiness, excitement, anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, love, heartbreak, change, loss, gains...all of it.  Notice how I listed more negatives than positives there.  Happiness is a very difficult thing to obtain and these days, few people ever experience it in its purest form.  Hell, it's something that I'm still working on and losing our mom made it even more difficult and deterred me off that path of working on it.  Sure, there are times that everyone experiences now and again than make them happy but to maintain it is real work.  Generically, people think that happiness comes from others and material things and while those people or things may bring you happiness hypothetically, it's artificial.  True, authentic, genuine happiness comes from within.  To become whole and truly happy takes a lot of soul searching.  You have to find happiness and peace within yourself before any of those people or things can make you happy.  You don't have to feel happy all the time to actually be happy but if a good portion of your life is revolved around people or material things as a requirement to make you feel happy then you are not truly happy.  If your feelings of happiness dissipate after these people or things go away, then you have not achieved authentic happiness.

In saying all of this, a vast majority of people live their lives revolved around selfishness and greed without even realizing it.  We are a product of the environment in which we live unless we choose to break that cycle.  In order to do that, you have to learn the art of thinking for yourself.  We live in a generation where we are taught to feel guilt for having our own feelings, thoughts and beliefs.  This whole topic that I'm choosing to write about is a very loaded topic that I could keep going on about forever and ever and at some point, I could end up running around in circles writing about it.  People tend to run around in circles with a topic when they are bound and determined to convince people of their truth, heavy emphasis on the word "their".  I myself use to do that.  Why?  Because I felt guilt for how I felt, what I thought and what I believed which was influenced by our society.  You will never, no matter how hard you try, ever get everyone to agree with how you feel, think or believe.  The sooner you realize this, the more your sanity will be spared.  So why am I sharing all of this?  What is the point if I can't change the world?  Well, primarily, I'm sharing all of this as a bookmark of my thoughts for myself but if I even help change one person's life in the process, I'd be happy.  I wish I had read something like this sooner, not that it would necessarily change anything for me if I wasn't ready to accept it into my life, but it would be a good read anyway, right?

Where was I?  Oh right.  Selfishness and greed.  "I HAVE to have the latest technology...the latest phone, smart watch, T.V, computer, game console, car, etc", "How many hours can I work to get the most money possible?", "I'm not good enough unless I wear this, have that, look like this, have that job, obtain this social status, have x-amount of friend's".  Stop.  STOP ALL OF IT.  It's ALL nonsense.  I'm not saying you can't have those things, but you don't need those things to be good enough or happy for that matter.  Being good enough and being happy does not come directly from material, it's something that is intangible.  Material things are meant to be a secondary form of happiness, not your primary source.  When my mother-in-law passed away, I thought long and hard about life.  You would hear it from older folks about working your life away to save for retirement, blah blah blah.  Well, you should but don't kill yourself in the process to do so.  It's crazy to me that people actually choose to work like a dog (over 40 plus hours a week) all their life to enjoy MAYBE 5-10 years of their life comfortably, maybe some people get a little more but let's be honest, hardly no one lives to 100 anymore.  Despite not knowing when you will leave this earth, you still spend a good majority of your life working.  I'm not saying don't work.  I'm just saying, live your life in the process is all - don't forget to do that.  We get so lost in the idea of making money or obtaining some unrealistic idea of status that before we know it, our whole life flashes before our eyes.  When's the last time you thought about a celebrity that has passed away unless you seen a movie, music video, Facebook post or article about them?  Be honest.  You haven't.  We all end up in the same dirt when we die, and that dirt is no richer or poorer than the dirt the next person is buried in.

What is the point of all of this?  LIVE YOUR DOGGONE LIFE WHILE YOU'RE ALIVE - the younger you start, the better.  Be kind to others.  Think for yourself!  Stop and smell the roses, literally.  Unplug.  Go outside and watch the grass grow and soak up the sun.  Make time for yourself but also make time for others.  Go to work and make money to live but don't kill yourself doing so.  Don't compare yourself to other people.  Take chances and make changes.  Take your time - you're on no one else's schedule.  Do your best to become the best version of yourself a little each day.  You will continue to fail and make mistakes from time to time but be patient with yourself - that's all apart of learning and growing as a person.  Make time to reflect and process the things going on in your life whether good or bad and reassess and make changes as you feel necessary.

Let's back up and reflect on the idea that we all have decisions to make.  What decisions will YOU make for YOUR life?  Me?  I believe that I'm in my metamorphosis stage of life.  I went through the denial stage.  I'm slowly but surely moving through the acceptance stage and learning how to love myself to make the necessary changes in my life to find and define my authentic, genuine happiness.  I'm not going to lie, it's work, hard work - but I truly believe in my heart that it's all going to be worth it.  And on that note, I don't give a single shit what people think of me in the process and you shouldn't either!

Losing my mother-in-law taught me all of this.  She is my guardian angel.

Sunday Catchup: A Sunday Spent Chilling

The beginning of the week started out a little rough, especially on the day that I had therapy.  I've been worried about the future of where Jason's surviving parent would go once one of them passes if the other were not able to continue to live in their current home.  We are not able to take in anyone to care for them as my health has been getting worse over the years and I'm hanging onto the edge with trying to hold onto my job as it is.  Monday, I went to the doctor, and he is still wanting to keep my on a controlled anxiety medication due to still having significant issues with my anxiety and he wrote me out an application to get a permanent handicap placard.  I discussed with my therapist a lot on how I felt and while I will still quite overwhelmed, through talking to her, Jason and some people that I'm close with, I have determined that I can only take on what I have control over and should not let people's opinions bother me if I'm not able to do something.

My therapist reminded me that I'm only one person with my own individual issues and I have to live my life according to my needs.  I'm not medically able to take care of anyone - heck, I don't even have my own children because I had to make that decision based off my mental and physical inability to be a parent.  Most days I can barely take care of myself, and it's been told to me by medical professionals that it's only going to get worse as I get older.  Yes, I'm still young but I didn't ask for these things to be wrong with me.  I deal with a lot of grief and guilt not being able to do what I should be able to do for my age.  I genuinely don't like disappointing people but unfortunately, that's life.  I spent so much of my life trying to do everything I could for people and putting them before me that it's partly the reason I'm dealing with what I am today.  It's not like I still won't do for people when I have the availability or means, but there will be times where I'll have to say no, and it won't be easy but it's necessary at times.

As the week went on, it got much better.  We had to work Saturday, and it was just such a slow day.  We had so much equipment failures and didn't run much.  We have to work next weekend too unless they decide to cancel it which I doubt but one can only hope.  Jay and I decided that we will start eating dinner at work to help us lose a little weight and if we get home from work and are a little hungry, we will eat a small salad.  I got one more bottle of vape liquid after the one I'm currently on and then I'm going to try to quit vaping.  One day at a time, I'm healing...

It's definitely not easy, but I'm getting there.  I've been slowly doing more around the house and realizing that I'm on nobody's timeline to get things done and not to compare myself to others.  Taking one day at a time, crossing bridges when I get to them, listening to my body, worrying less about what others think of me and just doing the best I can are all things that I'm trying to practice along with deep breathing as needed.

I bought Morning Star veggie burgers and chicken patties for our dinners.  Jason is getting green beans and rice and I'm doing brussel sprouts and roasted sweet potatoes.  I just know that I can't wait until our vacation in May.  We are going to have SUCH a well-deserved and relaxing vacation, just the two of us!  Also, my supervisor is allowing me to say in the audit room I've been working in and I'm SO incredibly grateful for that.  It's been hard to trust the process as I've spent my whole life being an overthinker and over worrier but I'm finding that I've unnecessarily have done both of these things for many years.

Jay and I got Subway for lunch/dinner tonight and we just spent the day trying to get rejuvenated for the week to come...

I'm going to finish making babe and I's dinner for work then lay down and relax for the rest of the night.  Might have me an alcoholic seltzer or two to relax.  I've had some other things on my mind that have been bothering me but that's neither here nor there right now.  They are things that will sort themselves out over time. 😌 I'm getting better at this...one day at a time...

Thursdayish Thursday: Deep Breaths and Taking One Day at a Time

It's been an exhausting week so far.  Yesterday we found out that we will have to work Saturday and probably so for the next couple of weekends.  I had to wake up early just about every day this week to do something before work and I'm just completely exhausted.  Then I found out last night that Jason's schedule will be 2-10:30 and mine will be 4-12:30 which has us 2 hours apart in work schedule now.  While it doesn't seem like much of a difference, it certainly will be, especially when we have to work over our normal scheduled time to full-fill production quota.  Our availability is going to be tough in terms of having time for others and it's something that is making me feel extremely guilty.  I'm having to plan therapy and other doctors' appointments around these kinds of schedules, making sure I'm getting adequate sleep and being able to take care of my medical issues both outside and inside of work.  I can't just get up and go all the time like a normal, healthy person - more often than not, I have to work around how I'm feeling because I don't want to make my medical situations worse and not be able to work altogether.

I'm trying to figure out how to balance it all and the truth is, I'm only one person.  I can only do what I'm able to do and unfortunately, people are inevitably going to feel let down by me.  I don't know how to NOT let that make me feel like a shitty person.  It bothers me immensely when people say things like, "Well, that's not how I was raised...we did what we had to do to be there for family..." or people just making us feel bad in general because we can't offer them the same that they might be able to offer us.  If I hate anything, it's when people make me feel bad for what I'm not able to do.  I used to be a "yessir" so much so that it caused me to neglect my physical and mental health to the point that it landed me in a downward spiral.

Like, Jason and I were supposed to go over dad's house this weekend and clean out some of Jason's things that they had been storing for him since they relocated down here so that they would have more room in their garage in case they can make a ramp work for mom when she comes home.  I was going to wake up and go grocery shopping then we were going to go over his house and start going through things and maybe spend half the day there.  Then we found out that we have to work Saturday now which Jason leaves for work around 11:30 a.m to be there for 2pm with how the parking lot is.  I get off at 11pm and don't get home until 11:30pm which doesn't give me much time before I have to go to bed - supposing I got 8 hours of sleep (which I have to be extremely alert for my job), figuring I lay down by 2 a.m, lands me waking up at 10 a.m - I'd have to get my grocery shopping done before I went into work and that leaves us no time before we have to be into work.  We need Sunday to clean, do laundry and rest before we do it all again for another 6 days.

I'm going to be starting a new therapy technique with my therapist the week after next that is going to take a lot of dedication and emotions out of me on top of having to go to work through it all.  It's absolutely necessary for me to do this technique because it aids me in reprocessing my trauma so that I can move on from it if I have any repressed thoughts, feelings or grudges about it.  I can barely help myself, let alone have children and now I have to feel guilty that I can't help others every single time they need it.  It's not like I can't help others at all - I just can only do it when I'm able to...

The positives of this week:

Overtime (though it's going to probably kill me) = more $$

I got my vacation form approved for May!

P.S: I was so incredibly tired and irritable yesterday that I cried on my way to work.  I'm trying to learn how to counter these episodes but damn...is it hard...

Sunday Funday: Got Things Done and Relaxed

On Friday, we finally tried to light the pilot light on the hot water tank after having a cracked pipe repaired a few days prior.  Thank God - after a few tries, we finally got it lit and had hot water when we got home after almost two weeks of no hot water.  It was crazy trying to get an appointment with a tech because they were so backed up due to the freak freeze that we had.  It felt good to finally take a proper hot shower.  I called dad before I went into work on Friday, and he said mom is doing fantastically better - I was SO happy to hear that!  FINALLY, some GOOD news after two months of hell.  I worked 2-10 Friday due to one of our auditors being out, so I filled in for her.  It was nice getting off the same time as Jay on Friday.  I'll more than likely work 2-10 tomorrow too because she will still be out.

Saturday, we went to the grocery store and picked up a few things, came home and got some chores done.  Today I finished going through my dresser, put some clothes up and cleaned out my laundry hamper that I have on wheels.  I had a decent rest of the week at work - it went smoothly anyways.  There's not really much to talk about in this post as it's been a quiet remainder of the week.  I have therapy on Tuesday then we have mom's care plan meeting with the rehab facility Wednesday.  Hoping on another good week.  I'm slowly going to start work on eating healthier and eventually quit vaping as well.  I was skeptical but therapy is actually going well and for the first time in a while, I can honestly say that I can feel that I'm less stressed.  I'm not where I want to be, but it's become a lot better.

I'm going to start slowly working on going through our spare bedrooms - they need to be gone through.  We kind of just use them as storage so I need to see what can be tossed, donated, etc...

Trying to minimize a lot in my life this year so I can live more comfortably and deal with less stress.

[ Can totally relate]

Oh yeah, I started my vitamins back up this week too.  I'm remembering to refill my pill reminder box when I should.  I'm learning to slow down and take things day by day.  I'm learning that a lot of my constant state of anxiety is unnecessary and is causing me extreme harm.  Through practicing breaking down my thought processes, it's helping me realize that I over worry way too much, and I can let a lot more go than I thought I could.  I still have a long way to go, and all of this is definitely easier said than done, but one day at a time will get me there.

I also took off my old nail polish from last week and put some new polish on. 👍

Going to make this week a good one!  If you change your perspective to a more positive one, I promise that your life will really change for the better. 💚

Top Ten Tuesday: Catching Up from the Weekend

2023 Honda HR-V - I didn't mention this Friday because I had much more important blog posts that I needed to focus on, but my 2023 Honda HR-V finally came in!  My father-in-law came with me to get the car because Jason was at work.  I figured it would do dad some good to get out of the house and it was a common interest we could do together.  I bought some black Plasti Dip over the weekend and dipped my emblems in black because the car is 99% red and black and I just felt that black emblems were more appropriate for a sport edition car that was mostly red and black.  It's been a project - that's for sure.  It was my first time ever using spray paint - I had to redo the HR-V on the back because it came out shitty the first time and the back Honda emblem has to be redone for a third time because it just doesn't want to do right - you have to have a lot of patience for that shit.  I still haven't got around to redoing the back Honda emblem - I needed a break because it's frustrating.

Here's the front of the car:

Jason helped me nickname her Lady Bug.

Dunkin' Cookie Butter Cold Brew - This.

That's all I have to say.  Run, don't walk to Dunkin' and try this.  You WON'T regret it.  I fell in absolute love with this cold brew - so sad that it's seasonal only.

Holiday's Postponed Until Further Notice - We will not be celebrating holidays until further notice until mom is better to celebrate them with us.  She is the heart of our traditions.  Jay, dad and I are going up to the hospital on Thanksgiving to see mom then the three of us are going out to a Chinese buffet.

Things I've Been Doing Since Last Blog Post - Cooking, basic cleaning, resting, and reflecting.  The past couple of days, I haven't been able to manage an afternoon nap and it's making me cranky.  After I finish this blog post, I may lay down for just a bit until Jay gets home.

Reflections on Self Care - My acne has been acting up on and off, I've gained roughly about 10 pounds back and my stress levels are through the roof.  I have put my self care on the back burner and it's slowly starting to get to me.  I haven't even had the motivation to shower in a few days - don't judge because I know you have ALL been there one time or another.

I had to purchase a new medication reminder pill box because I can't seem to find the 2 or 3 that I have laying around somewhere because I've been shit at remembering to take my medications and you especially don't want to forget blood pressure medication.  I've had plenty of days where I pick up the prescription bottle and ask myself, "Did I already take this today?" and then just don't take it because while it's bad not to take it, it's definitely not good to double dose on blood pressure meds.  I rather my blood pressure be elevated than be passed out somewhere with no blood pressure at all.

Intermittent Binge Eating - I've been intermittently stress binge eating.  I hate that I do it and I try not to but sometimes fail.  I hate the guilt that follows a binge eating episode which is why I try to counter it with vaping but when I give up vaping, I will no longer have a crutch for my binge eating.

Intermittent Bouts of Anger and Sadness - I'm excessively having bouts of anger and sadness.  I'm taking a lot of things to heart right now and having trouble processing why it seems like people who I feel should be there for me aren't and certain things people are saying are highly upsetting me - I'm disappointed and heartbroken over it.  I have random crying episodes over what is going on with mom.  She's been doing much, much better but before this all happened to her, I spoke to her virtually almost every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day.  I've never gone this long without being able to talk to her - she is one of the few people that understands me and I feel so completely lost without her.  There are people checking on me from time to time but there are also people who I expected to be there for me, and they haven't.  My grandmother has been there for me the most besides Jay.  I cherish the both of them so much, they are always there for me unconditionally, no matter the day or time.

My Doctor has Become my Lifeline - I contacted my doctor today because while the time off from work is doing wonders for me and I've been able to make some progress (when no one is fucking it up by pissing me off), I still have bouts of panic and it's stressing my body out - I can feel it, so I asked him what I should do.  He wants me to start my Trintellix back up and if I need to during the day, I can break my Ativan in half and take it if I get to feeling that way then save the other half for bedtime.  If I don't need to use a half during the day, I can just take my whole Ativan at bedtime.  He's really helped me through a lot of shit in the past month and I'm so incredibly grateful for that.

Coming up with a Plan - I've been doing a lot of self-reflecting lately.  I've decided to give virtual therapy a try and meet with a therapist based out of Greenville on Monday at noon.  My insurance allows three free, forty-five-minute sessions so what do I have to lose by trying?  I'm going to slowly get back into my skin and hair care routine, get back to a healthier eating routine, and map out of a plan to clean and organize my house.  I want to spend so more quality time with Jay as well as get back into reading some self-help books.  I have hopes that I can keep up with my blog - I believe that it would be a really positive thing for me to maintain this space.  I also want to devise a going-back-to-work plan so that I can maintain the positive routines that I want to continue to practice in order to maintain my mental and physical well-being.  I'm also keeping an agenda - I purchase one to keep important notes and dates in because my memory has been shit lately.

Updates on mom - I called and spoke to the nurse today and they said she is much more alert today and responding well to commands - physical therapy has been working with her more and more.  All positive things lately which is excellent!  God is working closely with her, and I feel like he is working a miracle with her.  I've been praying nonstop since this happened to her.  I miss her so fucking much and I want nothing more on this God's green earth than for her just to get better.  Sunday when Jay and I went to go see her, she was the most alert that we have ever seen her since this happened to her.  She can't talk-talk but if you really listen, you can hear her whisper words through her trach that she says when she tries to talk.  I asked her again if she wanted to fight this and she said, "Oh yeah".  I told her that I'm glad she does because we still need her.  She responded, "I know".  As soon as I left her room, I cried tears of joy and had on and off bouts of crying on the way home.

I showed her the pictures of her husband and sons that I had made up for her as well as the gifts that I and others have gotten for her.  I read her the card that I got for her and showed her everyone who had signed it.  Before she got critically ill, she had made comments to me about not being able to get out to see the Fall foliage, so I took some pictures of some really pretty trees nearby so she could see when she woke up.  I finally got to show her Sunday and her eyes widened and she whispered, "Oh wow!"  I was so incredibly thankful for this day with her and the progress she has made.  I'm so fucking proud of her!  It's been so hard on me because I'm so close with her and talk to her every day for the most part - it being over a month since I've been able to has just completely killed me inside.  She'd get on my nerves from time to time but right now, I'd do anything for her to get on my nerves...I miss her so very much...

Side Notes:

I finally watched 'Where the Crawdad's Sing' on Netflix.  It was excellent!  I've always heard that the book was really good too, but I've seen a post on Facebook where people who have both read the book and seen the movie said the movie was better.  I really enjoyed it.

Yesterday when I was having another go at redoing my car emblems, this little girl came around - she's been a stray in our neighborhood since we moved here - she use to come around with Cali.  Cali is the cat that we took in when she had an accident with a car in our neighborhood.  It's getting cold out and she wants to come in but we already have three cats and a dog, and we just can't take any more in.  I did give her a can of cat food though - she ate the whole can!

Lastly, I received an e-mail from Financial Aid that my application for student loan debt relief was approved and it will be applied once they settle the mess that they are having with the courts right now.  I'm so grateful because I truly need the assistance.

The.ONLY.good.thing.Biden.has.done.

Other than that, I had a little PTSD episode today and vented it all out between Facebook, Jay and my grandmother.  I cooked a homemade sausage mac and cheese casserole and baked some chocolate chip cookies last night.  I didn't quite get the rest that I wanted to today, so I have plans of trying again tomorrow. :)

Thursday Thoughts: "If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there"...

I'm sitting here saying to myself in my head "here we go again..." in a Grey's Anatomy style internal dialect.  Anyone who has seen Grey's Anatomy knows exactly what I'm talking about - that kind of first-person narration where you can hear their thoughts?  Yeah...that one.  I tend to find myself doing that whenever I blog.  It helps me paint a picture of my words for my posts and helps me improve on constructing my thoughts and adding real value to my content rather than just posting a bunch of redundancy.  Listen, don't get me wrong - I still need work in that department...I get it.

It's just...this feels like the ten millionth time that I have attempted to maintain a blog.  I've surprised myself quite a few times at how consistently I blogged for a while but eventually, it all ended with the same result - abandoned and forgotten about.  It's not that I don't like blogging because in all honesty, I absolutely love the idea of having a creative little corner of the internet that I have as my own...almost like a little secret hangout that I can come to keep record of how my life unfolds with the good, the bad and the ugly - where I can come to reflect on my progress or the lack thereof.  It's actually bothered me immensely that I haven't be able to manage it.  With that said, I have taken a lot of time to reflect on this perplexing issue and I believe that I have figured out why that is.

I struggle with a lot of things in my life that you will learn more about as time goes on with the more that I write here but the one particular thing that's relevant here is that I have struggled with elements such as my identity and personality.  I've struggled my whole life and still to this day with who I am as a person and the inability to find myself.  One of the behaviors that I would find myself having is that I often felt tense about what I wanted to write - not because I had "writers block" but because I feared that if anyone I knew personally came across my blog, they would have issues with the things that I have written.  I've had and still have issues with a lot of people in my life and I feel like if these particular people came across my blog and read something that I wrote about them on how I personally feel about them, it would do nothing but create more animosity and drama in my life.  Does that make sense?

I'm the type of person that yearns to be one hundred percent authentic and I find that extremely challenging in the kind of society that we live in today.  We live in a society of over-dramatic, overly sensitive, nit-picky, always-have-to-be politically correct about everything PEOPLE.  I have to put the emphasis on the word people there because by description, I almost forget that someone like that could even exist or be consider a human being.  It's disgusting to me that we as "human beings" spend more time on trivial things.  That it's more important to people to read into people's feelings and opinions so much that they dissect every fiber of their being and feel the need to use it against them in order to destroy them.  That status is that important to people that they feel the need to make everyone else around them feel microscopic.  I hate to be the bearer of bad news but none of that matters on judgement day and it certainly doesn't matter when they place you in that box too bury you ten feet under...

Moving on, I have given this dilemma of mine a lot of thought.  After much thought and consideration, I have decided that it's far more beneficial for me to blog as I see fit than spare the feelings of others.  I've learned early on in life that you can't control the actions, opinions, thoughts and feelings of others but you can certainly control your own.  It seems that no matter what you say these days anyways, you're always bound to upset someone, somewhere.  So, I have decided to blog to my little heart's desire.  That being said, if I feel uncomfortable expressing how I feel about a particular person and/or situation and I feel the need to be specific about it, I will create a private sub-category post under the public blog post that is relevant to the topic of what I'm posting about.  Do I care what others think and that's why I'm choosing to keep those elements private?  Absolutely NOT!

The purpose of doing this is to still be able to record my feelings without restriction all while keeping drama out of my life or rather, to keep it to a bare minimum.  You ever hear that saying that goes, "It's none of my business what other people think about me?"  Well, there you go - it's no one's business what I think about other people either!  I'm not obligated to express it publicly.  In doing this, I feel like it would give me the best of both worlds and allow me not to feel choked when I write.  Don't get me wrong, there will definitely be things I write about that I'm sure people still won't agree with or like that I will feel comfortable sharing but again, this is my page so unfortunately for those people, my blog is not to appease those of others - it's here for me and me only.

I will post as often or as little as I like and post whatever I want.  I don't care to conform with the big-time bloggers.  I find it refreshing to stay relatable to the masses on an average everyday life scale.  There are a few bloggers who I followed from the very start of their blogging career and while I'm glad they were able to take it where they wanted to, I find myself no longer following them due to loss of interest.  I wouldn't go as far as to say they've become "fake", but I appreciated reading more when they wrote about their lives on an average everyday scale.  It's like they went from average to high class and that's just something I can no longer relate to.
